Aquatic Therapy
Why is aquatic therapy beneficial?
Aquatic therapy provides a gravity reduced and buoyant environment. It allows for variability of positions and bases resistance on hydrology principles of drag and flow. Aquatic therapy is very useful in that the therapist can unload the patient’s joints and relax muscles that could not normally be accessed on land. The warm water medium is also helpful for reducing spasticity and pain. In addition, the aquatic environment activates the lymphatic system to flush swelling and toxins.
